Dining Room Home Tour

I'm slowly but surely sharing every corner of our home with you. I can't get all rooms looking presentable for photographs at the same time so that's the reason why I'm doing it in instalments ;) Today it's the turn of our dining-room which is now looking prettier than it used to due to the addition of some DWS replica dining chairs. I'm currently obsessed with Scandinavian decor so I've been keeping an eye on these beauties for some time now. I've already used one of them in our recently decorated office.

The photo below shows out previous chairs. They go with the furniture but not with our taste or lifestyle anymore.
The great thing about the replica ones is how light they are. I hadn't realised how heavy our previous ones were until we got the new ones. We can easily lift them up and avoid dragging them and then getting stuck in the tile grout. Vacuuming is a breeze as I can get them out of the way with minimal effort. They are also super easy to clean because of their plastic material.
However, it's not all about the chairs in this room. We have some plans for the near future. We are hoping to replace the dark wood table for a white one (I told you I'm obsessed with the scandi decor! ;) Same with the sideboard but that will be at a later stage I'm afraid.

We have walnut furniture all over the downstairs section of the house and it just feels too dominant and old fashioned and after the grey summer/ winters we've been having in Scotland; reflective surfaces that maximise any little light available are a must.

So, I'd love to know what you like most :walnut, oak or white furniture-wise?

Gaby

  1. You really do have a very light and bright room. This is one thing I struggle with especially when trying to fit it on with our tastes.

  2. This is a beautiful and bright space - I love how light it is. We had chairs like your old ones for a while and you're right, they're so heavy! Your new ones fit the space really well. I like the pop of colour from the lamp too.

  15. This is a lovely room - really bright and airy! Our house is quite small so I am always quite jealous when I see big spaces like this, just beautiful. Personally I prefer wood to painted/white furniture but walnut is very dark so maybe an oak or pine would be better while still keeping the natural look, if you didn't want to go all white.

  16. Your dining room is so bright and airy looking. Our dining room is quite dark so we're not sure how to style it yet. I personally love natural wood but it depends on the room and the style of the house as to which wood I would chose. #bloggershomes

  22. I like the chairs but I must say I like the dark wood too. We have a good bit of white in our home but I still like to have the contrast with real wood. It is all a matter of personal taste though.

  24. Gaby, you're a girl after my own heart. I have such a lot of this colour-scheme running through our home; I love the combo of white, chartreuse and blue. I actually like a bit of dark wood with the white. I'm a real fan of the scandi look but I wouldn't be able to live in an all white house — I like the warm tones of the wood :) Thanks so much for linking up with us — delighted to have you! #HomeEtc

  26. Ooo, you have a very similar dining room to me. We have a walnut table and pretty much the exact same floor tiles as you. AND, we have very modern-looking, white chairs, too. Don't change a thing. It's perfect! I do have a lot of fuchsia accents in the room, though, which adds some colour and stops it feeling a bit too dark. But your yellow lamp is gorgeous for that, too.
